Childcare volunteers care for children on Mondays while YPT parenting/prenatal groups take place. Volunteer will also assist in setup and takedown, light meal duties and participant assistance as needed.
Volunteer need is from 3pm on Mondays to 6/6:30 Pm. During childcare, the focus is to be attentive to their needs, to talk and play with them, and comfort them as needed. Childcare will take place when participants split to join their designated group and after while parents shop in the food pantry if desired. This part of volunteering is for about 1 hour. Set up takes place one hour prior to group starting. Volunteers will assist staff in getting necessary items for the group from the warehouse. These items include, but are not limited to, white boards, children’s mats for play, toys and activities, highchairs, and any other items not listed. Take down would require some light cleaning and putting items back in the warehouse. Other duties include opportunities to assist in the Advisory Board, some light one on one informational sharing with participants and opportunities to get involved in fundraising events.
Must be 18 or older with desire to work with young children and families. Knowledge of child development and experience working with children and teens is very helpful. The focus is to be attentive to their needs, to talk and play with them, and comfort them as needed. A background check will be required. An orientation will be provided.
