Help reduce the impact of hazardous and electronic waste in Black Hawk County by volunteering at the area’s largest public recycling event! Sign up with a friend or register your collegiate/civic group to help!

Volunteers (ages 18+) are needed for unloading electronics (computers, televisions, printers, etc), directing traffic, conducting surveys, shrink-wrapping, and helping unload household chemicals from residents’ vehicles. A crew of 50-60 volunteers is needed to unload between 600 and 900 vehicles coming from all corners of Black Hawk County.
The Electronics Recycling & Household Hazardous Materials Drop-off by the Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission, the city of Cedar Falls and the City of Waterloo. The event will take place at the Cedar Falls Public Works Building at 2200 Technology Parkway, Cedar Falls.

Volunteers unloaded more than 24 tons of electronics at the last event, filling 96 pallets. So many hands (and muscles!) are needed to pull off this large community recycling event!
2 Volunteer Shifts Available on September 18th, 2021!
Volunteers can volunteer for the entire length of the event, 7:45 AM- 2:00 PM or for a morning shift, 7:45 AM to 12:15PM.
***Donuts, lunch, beverages, and all safety equipment will be provided to volunteers. Citizens interested in volunteering are asked to contact the Waste Trac Education Team (outreach arm of the commission) by Friday, September 10th so adequate volunteer supplies & food can be ordered.
Any organization which commits a team of five or more to the event by August 31st will be recognized in promotion materials and on a poster displayed by the exit for all participants to see.
Volunteers need to be 18 years of age or older. Volunteers helping with electronics will need to be able to safely lift 40 pounds. Volunteers will receive team-lift training and be provided with necessary safety equipment. Rugged pants (jeans) and sturdy footwear are recommended (no sandals or flip-flops). The event will take place rain or shine. Volunteers are asked to bring appropriate clothing/coats/rain gear for working outdoors or in an unheated building.
The drop-off event is a great way to knock out 4-6 hours of volunteer time in just one day!!! Citizens needing to fulfill community service hours are welcome and can contact Solid Waste and Recovery Administrator John Foster for details at eductor@wastetrac.org or call 234-8115.
