Who We Are

The Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission provides ongoing waste alternative programs for area residents, Waste Trac educational programs, and strongly encourages and supports recycling efforts in Black Hawk County. The commission funds the Waste Trac Education Team who provides outreach to the county through school visits, landfill tours, community events, and publications.

The Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission is dedicated to providing safe and effective methods in the management of solid waste in Black Hawk County, Iowa while protecting our natural resources.

The Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission is a five person board that works with the Landfill Administrator to oversee the operation of the landfill and funds the education team. Commission members represent the City of Waterloo (2), the City of Cedar Falls (1), other communities (1), and rural areas through the Board of Supervisors (1). These members ensure that the Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission continues to provide ongoing waste alternative programs for area residents and strongly encourages and supports recycling efforts in the county.

What We Do

The Waste Trac Education Team acts as the voice for the Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission through organizing and promoting Commission sponsored drop-off events, giving school and public programs about solid waste/composting/recycling, giving landfill tours, answering the telephone helpline (266-TRAC), and managing the Commission's website. The 2-person Waste Trac Education Team can visit any school or civic group within Black Hawk County (at no charge!).
