Description

Volunteer at the area's largest public recycling event! Sign up with a friend or register a team of 4 or 5 with your collegiate/corporate/civic group!

The Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission and the City of Waterloo are seeking volunteers that can help with the lifting of old TVs and computer monitors during their electronics recycling and household hazardous materials drop-off event in Waterloo (Waste Water Treatment Plant, 3505 Easton Ave.).

Volunteers (ages 18+) will also be needed for directing traffic, surveys, shrink-wrapping, and helping unload household chemicals from residents’ vehicles. A crew of 50-60 people is needed to unload between 600 and 900 vehicles. Volunteers unloaded nearly 29 tons of electronics at the last event, filling 74 pallets. So many hands are needed to pull off this community recycling event!

Volunteers can volunteer for the entire length of the event, 7:45 AM- 2:00 PM or for a morning shift, 7:45 AM to 12:15PM. Donuts, Subway lunch, beverages, and all safety equipment will be provided to volunteers.

Volunteers need to be 18 years of age or older. Volunteers helping with electronics will need to be able to safely lift 40 pounds.  Volunteers will receive team-lift training and be provided with necessary safety equipment.  Rugged pants and sturdy footwear are recommended (no sandals or flip-flops).  The event will take place rain or shine.  Volunteers are asked to bring appropriate clothing/coats/rain gear for working outdoors or in an unheated building.

The drop-off is a great way to knock out 4-6 hours of volunteer time in just one day! Citizens needing to fulfill community service hours are welcome and can contact Volunteer Coordinator, Tammy Turner for details at 266-8722. Information about volunteering at this event can also be found at  https://wastetrac.org/volunteer/.

Bring your smile and your muscles to help green the Cedar Valley!
