Description

Volunteer at one of the area's largest public recycling events! Sign up with a friend or register your corporate, collegiate or civic group to help.

Volunteers (ages 18+) are needed for unloading electronics (computers, televisions, printers, etc), directing traffic, conducting surveys, shrink-wrapping, and helping unload household chemicals from residents vehicles. A crew of 50-60 volunteers is needed to unload between 600 and 900 vehicles coming from all corners of Black Hawk County. Volunteers unloaded more than 37 tons of electronics at the last event, filling 123 pallets. So many hands (and muscles!) are needed to pull off this large community recycling event!

The Electronics Recycling & Household Hazardous Materials Drop-off Event is co-sponsored by the Black Hawk County Solid Waste Management Commission, Waste Trac Education Team, and the City of Cedar Falls.

Citizens interested in volunteering are asked to contact the Waste Trac Education Team (outreach arm of the solid waste commission) by Friday, Sept 13th so adequate food & safety supplies can be purchased.

The recycling event is open to all Black Hawk County residents. The Fall drop-off takes place in Cedar Falls at the Cedar Falls Public Works Complex (2200 Technology Parkway).

2 Volunteer Shifts available on 9-21!

Volunteers can help out for the entire length of the event, 7:45 AM- 2:00 PM or volunteer for a morning shift, 7:45 AM to 12:15 PM. Donuts, lunch, beverages, and all safety equipment will be provided to volunteers.

Volunteers need to be 18 years of age or older. Volunteers helping with electronics will need to be able to safely lift 40 pounds.  Volunteers will receive team-lift training and be provided with necessary safety equipment.

Rugged pants and sturdy footwear are required (no sandals or flip-flops).  The event will take place rain or shine.  Volunteers are asked to bring appropriate clothing/coats/rain gear.

The drop-off event is a great way to knock out 4-6 hours of volunteer time in just one day!!! Citizens needing to fulfill community service hours are welcome & can contact the volunteer coordinator for details at 266-8722.
