Counselors provide free tax assistance and preparation services to low and middle income taxpayers.
The Tax-Aide program provides free tax preparation services to the community. RSVP and the Volunteer Center of Cedar Valley has partnered with the AARP Tax-Aide Foundation to bring this service to our community members.
Volunteer Tax Counselors are needed for a minimum of 8-12 hours per week from February 1 through April 16. Classroom and online training is provided from November 20 through January 20.
Shifts are available (Monday through Friday) from February 1 to April 15. Volunteers must be available a minimum of 8-12 hours per week:
- Morning shift: 8:30 am to 12:30 pm
- Afternoon shift: 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Volunteers must have good computer skills and enjoy working with people. We provide training on tax preparation, but volunteers must have strong computer skills at the beginning. Counselors must also pass an annual certification exam to be certified by the IRS in order to provide tax assistance in this program.
