The Waterloo Field of Honor flag display will be a site to behold August 8th & 9th when 560 flags honoring fallen soldiers, airman, marines, and sailors from Black Hawk county will fly. The event is free and open to the public and masks and social distancing will be required. Donations at this event will help support the Sullivan, Hartogh Davis Honor Flights and The Exchange Club of Waterloo.
We are seeking many volunteers to assist with this outdoor event. There is a volunteer opportunity for all abilities throughout the event. We need:
Flag Bearers - 50 volunteers are needed to carry 560 flags from the Vietnam Memorial (Courier parking lot) and across the 4th Street bridge to Veteran’s Hall, where the flag will be placed on a designated post. Volunteers will meet at 7am and be finished by 9am on Saturday August 8. Mask required.
Placing Ribbons - 10 volunteers are needed to attach a ribbon with zip ties to each of the 560 flags once they are placed on their post. Volunteers will meet at 7:30am at corner of W. 4th Street and Cedar St., and be finished by 9am on Saturday August 8. Mask required.
Entrance Volunteers - 6 volunteers are needed at two entrances to the Field to greet guests, pass out programs, answer general questions, and take donations. Volunteers needed 4pm-6:30pm on Saturday, August 8 and from 11am-2pm on Sunday, August 9. Mask required.
Event Tear Down- 10 volunteers needed to help remove flags and posts from ground. Volunteers will meet at 3:45pm on Sunday, August 8 and will complete this task by 6:30pm. Mask required.
