Who We Are

The Black Hawk Soil and Water Conservation District was formed in July 1945. And since that date, five elected commissioners have been working at improving our water quality and preserving our soils for almost 70 years.

Mission:  To bring about, through wise planning, a secure future of strong agriculture production and environmental protection of our precious resources in both urban and rural sectors.

Goals: To conserve, protect, improve, develop, use and maintain soil, water and related resources for the benefit of future generations in both public and private sectors. To successfully implement objectives in the Soil and Water Resource Conservation Plan through an orderly procedure in an Annual Work Plan.

What We Do

Provide technical and financial assistance to landowners of Black Hawk County willing to implement conservation on their property, both in urban and rural areas. We also strive to education and inform our community on the importance of conservation and sustainability as well as ways everyone can get involved to protect our soil and water.
