The mission of Waterloo Community Playhouse/Black Hawk Children's Theatre is to provide high quality theater productions, entertainment, and education for the cultural and creative enrichment of the Northeast Iowa community. Our vision is for a growing, creative community theatre closely in touch with the needs and desires of its audiences.
What We Do
WCP/BHCT is a vital part of the cultural life of Northeast Iowa. The purpose of WCP/BHCT is: To promote and foster the artistic welfare of all people through development of the dramatic arts by encouraging and utilizing the abilities of amateur individuals. To be devoted to the educational and literary betterment of the public in its appreciation of dramatic art. To efficiently utilize volunteer service in all facets of the theatre. To provide quality entertainment. WCP/BHCT produces 9-10 shows per season. Volunteers are at the very heart of every step in creating theatre magic. WCP/BHCT provides volunteer opportunities for people of all ages in all walks of life, as well as serving as a creative outlet, talent development resource, and entertainment venue which improves the quality of life for Cedar Valley residents. WCP/BHCT is the oldest community theatre in Iowa, being organized in 1916 by the Waterloo Drama League for the purpose of producing amateur theatre. For nearly a century WCP/BHCT has been providing a place in the Cedar Valley where families and individuals can come together and work on a common project.
