Who We Are
Improve the Health of our Communities Through Healing, Caring and Teaching. UnityPoint Hospice promotes quality of life during its final stages by providing compassionate care, dignity and support for every patient and Family. According to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO), approximately 468,000 hospice volunteers provided 22 million hours of service in the United States during 2009. UnityPoint Hospice volunteers who choose to work in direct care may spend time reading to and visiting with patients or providing respite care to allow family caregivers a break. Support work may include helping with mailings and other special projects. UnityPoint Hospice volunteer orientation and training provides in-depth education about the end-of-life process. Participants will learn about the goals of hospice, care and comfort measures, the psychosocial and spiritual dynamics of death and dying, grief and bereavement support, and much more.
UnityPoint Hospice addresses the emotional, social and spiritual needs of every patient, while also offering support for the entire family at end of life. Our goal is to provide patients and their families with comfort, compassion and dignity so they can focus on the remaining time together.
What We Do
UnityPoint Hospice, formerly Allen Hospice, offers compassionate end-of-life care when medical treatment cannot provide a cure for life-limiting illness or condition. Hospice focuses on maximizing quality of life by managing pain and offering emotional and spiritual support for patients and their families. UnityPoint Hospice care is individualized according to each patient's unique needs. Controlling symptoms, managing pain and providing comfort are priorities. UnityPoint Hospice works closely with Allen Hospital and UnityPoint physicians, clinics and care facilities serving patients in the Cedar Valley area. UnityPoint Hospice is an affiliate of UnityPoint at Home, a statewide leader in home health services and part of UnityPoint Health.
Volunteers are a vital part of the mission at UnityPoint Hospice. Patient's and families' lives are enriched by the volunteers who serve them by offering companionship or respite. We are seeking exceptional volunteers who are interested in serving others at end of life.
