Who We Are

Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God’s love into action by building homes, communities and hope. Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.  Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.

What We Do

Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity focuses on home ownership as its solution to affordable housing. By offering zero interest mortgages and accepting sweat equity as a down payment we are able to offer affordable home ownership opportunities to families who would otherwise not qualify for a mortgage. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses in partnership with families in need. Habitat has built more than 500,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1,500,000 people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. Habitat for Humanity International has been building homes around the world since 1976. Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity was established in 1990 and has built or renovated over 100 homes in the affiliate service area of Black Hawk, Bremer and Butler counties.
