The Independence Public Library was the first public library in the state 150 years ago. We just celebrated our sesquicentennial, so we have a proud past, but also a service-oriented, proactive group that empowers and engages community members.

We provide interesting and engaging programs like the summer reading program for all ages and the Community Read (One Book Indee) for teens and adults. We keep an up-to-date collection of materials for hard copy and downloadable checkouts as well as non-traditional checkouts (puzzles, games, equipment). We treat everyone with respect and value, provide great customer service and have our pulse on the needs and desires of the community. The library also regularly updates our strategic plan so we are all moving in the same direction.
