Who We Are

Rotary International is an international service organization whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world. It is a non-political and non-religious organization open to all. There are over 35,000 member clubs worldwide, with a membership of 1.2 million individuals, known as Rotarians. The organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.

What We Do

Rotary brings together a global network of volunteer leaders who dedicate their time and talent to tackle the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges. Rotary focuses on six areas of service: Peace and conflict prevention/resolution.
Disease prevention and treatment.
Water and sanitation.
Maternal and child health.
Basic education and literacy.
Economic and community development.

Most notably, Rotary has been the driving force in the eradication of Polio around the world, partnering with the World Health Organization and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Locally, the Rotary Club of the Cedar Valley hosts a monthly service project where members can engage hands on, through committee planning, or through a financial or item donation. Annual events are also held to support our work and the community including: Dine -Out to End Polio, Putt -Putt with a Purpose, Santa to a Senior, and Salute to Veterans.
