What does the organization need?

Purpose: 

The Cedar Falls Historical Society is seeking responsible, reliable, enthusiastic, and personable hosts to staff our Schoolhouse Museum on weekend afternoons.

Responsibilities: 

• Greets visitors and welcomes them to the Museum
• Answers questions from visitors

Training Provided:

Volunteers at the Schoolhouse Museum are supporting our vision of educating people about and celebrating the history of Cedar Falls.
Museum hosts allow us to extend our open hours into the weekend.

Benefits to volunteer: 

• Build relationships with a great community of staff and volunteers
• Build appreciation for the history of Cedar Falls
• Get to know the town where you live
• Gain customer service experience

For the volunteer

Qualifications: 

• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Friendly and helpful attitude
• Reliability and responsibility are essential
• A general understanding of, and an ability to communicate, the history of the Schoolhouse Museum
• A general understanding of, and an ability to communicate, the Cedar Falls Historical Society’s mission
• Volunteers age 18 and older are welcome
• Volunteers must complete the Schoolhouse host training orientation to volunteer in the position

 

Dates needed: Saturdays and/or Sundays in May to mid October 

What does the organization need?

Purpose:

Responsibilities: 

• Greets visitors and welcomes them to the Museum.
• Collects admission and gift shop proceeds (cash or check payments) from customers; making change for cash customers.
• Answers questions from visitors

Training Provided:

Volunteers will complete a training and orientation session in order to volunteer at the Ice House Museum. The Volunteer Coordinator is on call to help the volunteer troubleshoot unusual circumstances.

Impact of assignment:

We appreciate your support of our mission. Kitchen volunteers will assist our Kitchen staff with packing boxes of meals and snacks for our children’s programs, prepare food if needed, and help with light cleaning. No kitchen experience needed!

Kids Cafe Kitchen Volunteer  2 Hours | 9:00am-11:00am or 1:00pm-3:00pm Monday-Friday.

You must wear closed toe shoes.

What does the organization need?

Purpose: 

Organize and host a fundraiser or drive to raise money for House of Hope to achieve its mission.

Responsibilities: 

Create and execute a fundraiser event of their choosing (ex. 5k run). Use your skills and passions. The possibilities are endless.

Training Provided:

Fill out form on website to inform House of Hope what the fundraiser/drive would consist of.

Impact of Assignment:

All of our funding comes from the community and individual contributions that generate unrestricted revenue to support House of Hope in its mission to end the cycle of homelessness and poverty in our community.

Being part of our mission to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty in our community

For the volunteer

Qualifications: 

Under 18 parental consent is required, no background check

What does the organization need?

Purpose: 

To support survivors of sexual assault.

Responsibilities: 

Participate in an on-call rotation to respond to hospital calls to support survivors of sexual assault.

What does the organization have in place to support the volunteer?

Training: 

30-hour Victim Counselor Training, provide resources, mentoring, and support.

How will this help the organization?

Impact of assignment: 

This will assist our ability to provide more support to survivors of sexual assault.

Benefits to volunteer: 

Development in counseling, networking, increase public speaking skills, gain experience in victim services.

For the volunteer

Qualifications: 

For individuals 16 and over. No experience is needed, we will provide training. Qualifications include empathy, communication skills, and patience. Background checks will be required upon completion of the training.

Safety Protocols:

Masks optional.

To network and raise awareness of sexual violence.

Responsibilities: 

To build relationships with other community resources to bridge any barriers survivors may have in receiving services.

What does the organization have in place to support the volunteer?

Training: 

30-hour Victim Counselor Training, provide resources, mentoring, and support.

How will this help the organization?

Impact of assignment: 

This will assist our ability to raise awareness of sexual violence and provide more support to survivors of sexual assault.

Benefits to volunteer: 

Development in counseling, networking, increase public speaking skills, gain experience in victim services. 

For the volunteer

Volunteering to help with these crucial day-to-day processes allows staff capacity for specialized tasks that require in-depth knowledge and experience.

Benefits to volunteer: 

Gain experience and a good reference for your clerical skills, learn about nonprofit operations, learn new skills if you desire.

For the volunteer

Qualifications: 

6 months general clerical experience desired, fluent English, must be 18 or older

Safety Protocols:

COVID-19 protocol include distancing, mandatory masks, sanitizer, ceiling fans, etc.

To raise awareness and assist with prevention of sexual assault.

Responsibilities: 

To facilitate conversations within the community over various topics in relation to sexual assault.

What does the organization have in place to support the volunteer?

Training: 

30-hour Victim Counselor Training, provide resources, mentoring, and support.

How will this help the organization?

Impact of assignment: 

To open up conversations within the community to raise awareness about the services of Riverview Center as well as prevent sexual violence from occurring. It will also raise awareness over topics such as sexual assault.

Benefits to volunteer: 

Development in counseling, networking, increase public speaking skills, gain experience in victim services.
