Volunteer: Tax Counselor

Counselors provide free tax assistance and preparation services to low and middle income taxpayers.

Volunteer Tax Counselors are needed for a minimum of 8-12 hours per week from February 1 through April 16.   Classroom and online training is provided from November 20 through January 20.

Shifts are available (Monday through Friday) from February 1 to April 15. Volunteers must be available a minimum of 8-12 hours per week:

Morning shift: 8:30 am to 12:30 pm Afternoon shift: 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm

Volunteers must have good computer skills and enjoy working with people. We provide training on tax preparation, but volunteers must have strong computer skills at the beginning. Counselors must also pass an annual certification exam to be certified by the IRS in order to provide tax assistance in this program.

The Client Facilitator performs receptionist-type duties providing an important first contact for taxpayers using the Tax-Aide free tax preparation service, and helping to keep the service orderly and efficient.

Volunteer Client Facilitators are needed for a minimum of 6-7 hours per week from February 1 through April 16 plus an additional 2-4 hours of training and self-study in January.

Shifts are available (Monday through Thursday) from February 1 to April 16. Volunteers must have a minimum of 6-7 hours per week:

Morning shift: 8:15 am to 11:00 am Afternoon shift: 11:45 am to 3:15 pm

Client Facilitators must be organized, personable, and enjoy working with people. They must also pass an annual IRS certification exam on Standards of Conduct and Intake/Interview forms in order to volunteer in this program.
