Volunteer: Fold and Size Clothing Donations

AFIL loves to provide items to our local Veterans.

The community is great about donating these items, but we need your help going through them and getting them to the right place.

If you are looking to help out in your community but not really wanting to lift a whole lot, this job is for you!

AFIL gets donations on almost a daily basis. With so much coming in, we do not always get through it all each week. This is where you come in.

We need help sorting through donated clothing, bedding, and other smaller items.

This includes removing any items with stains, wiping down and test kitchen items, folding shirts, jeans, shorts, and sweat pants. After these items are folded, we need to know what size they are and have them put on the correct shelves.

If you have a heart for Veterans and want to help out in your community, then we would love to meet you. Please respond to this need and we will set up a time to have you tour the location. After the tour, if the cause fits, you can join in and further our mission of making lives better for our local Veterans. Thank you:)

Volunteer: Construction Worker

Do you have a heart for Veterans? Do you have an urge to lend a hand to those in need? Do you like to construct things that will help build better lives for someone else. If this is you, we NEED your help!

AFIL does home modifications to help Veterans better get around in their homes and feel safe moving from one point in their house to another. The freedom that these modifications gives to our local Veterans is worth all the sweat and dust stirred up during the transformation of these spaces. Not to mention, the smiles and appreciation these Veterans have for the finished product is breath taking and humbling.

Please come and join Tim in these transforming adventures of modifying homes for our local, well deserving, Veterans!

If you have any certificates in a specific trade dealing with construction and remodeling, we could use your skills.

If you do not have any certificates in construction trades but are willing to help with demo and re-construction, we could use your skills and help.

This job requires heavy lifting, painting, drywalling, flooring, demo work, and framing.

If you are a student under the age of 18, there will be a waiver that your legal guardian/parent will need to sign.

Worker will need to provide their own gloves and work apparel (boots, clothes fit for physical labor).

These modifications are life changing and your help is appreciated.

Thank you for your time, enthusiasm, talent, and caring.

Volunteer: Assistance delivering furniture and household items to veterans in need

Americans for Independent Living is continuously humbled and very grateful to the community for their frequent donation offers! At times, we have had to turn down offers or delay pick-up due to lack of time or manpower. We are looking for people with strong backs and generous hearts for our veterans to help pick up items being donated as well as help delivering household goods to recently placed homeless veterans. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing the smile on a veteran's face and hear their grateful responses when AFIL presents them with more than they ever expected! We are currently looking for help on Tuesdays and Fridays, though other opportunities may be available throughout the week. Simply "Respond" to this need and we will arrange an opportunity for you to volunteer with us!

Volunteers must be able to:

1. Lift and move furniture and heavy boxes (sometimes up several flights of stairs).

2. Pack donated items securely and load items into the truck.
