Volunteer: Reading Buddies Needed for Waterloo Elementary SchoolsWaterloo Elementary Schools are seeking volunteers 55 years or older to be Reading Buddies with children in first grade who are participating in the Reading Recovery program. Skills required by volunteer: Volunteers must be patient and literate themselves, being able to read and speak clearly and fluently. Time commitment: Once or more a week. The time served per visit is determined by the teacher. The frequency the volunteer will meet with student(s) is determined by the teacher and agreed upon by the volunteer. A background check with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry will be conducted as well as national checks through Raptor visitor check-in system.
