Volunteer: Waterloo School Volunteers Needed

Schools across Waterloo and Elk Run are in need of school volunteers! You have the choice of volunteering at a specific school and grade range. If you have no preferences, you will be placed in a school with a need for volunteers.

Activities that teachers need volunteers for include being paired with a teacher to assist with a small group of children, help with filing, projects around the school, assisting a child with reading, helping in the library, etc.

Volunteer: Reading Buddies Needed for Waterloo Elementary Schools

Waterloo Elementary Schools are seeking volunteers 55 years or older to be Reading Buddies with children in first grade who are participating in the Reading Recovery program.

Skills required by volunteer: Volunteers must be patient and literate themselves, being able to read and speak clearly and fluently.  Time commitment:  Once or more a week.  The time served per visit is determined by the teacher. The frequency the volunteer will meet with student(s) is determined by the teacher and agreed upon by the volunteer. A background check with the Iowa Sex Offender Registry will be conducted as well as national checks through Raptor visitor check-in system.
