Become a Host Family with the UNI International Family Friendship Program!  Want to make a global impact without leaving home? Become a host family for the International Family Friendship Program and connect with international students right here in the Cedar Valley!

By sharing a meal and spending time together just once a month, you’ll help students learn about American culture—and you’ll get to learn about theirs, too. It’s a meaningful, flexible way to build cross-cultural friendships that last a lifetime.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who are interested in working alongside our Cultural and Intensive English Program to provide additional support to international language learners. 

Volunteers would be matched depending on availability and other information with a student in the CIEP Program that has noted a need or want for additional support either in reading, writing, listening, or speaking. Volunteers would be assigned to meet with their designated student for at least one hour per week (possible more) dependent on the students needs. 

Volunteers should reach out to international@uni.edu if they are interested in taking part. Our staff will then be in contact regarding follow up information. 

*a background check is mandatory for all volunteer positions through the University of Northern Iowa.
