Purpose: 

The Cedar Falls Historical Society is seeking responsible, reliable, enthusiastic, and personable hosts to staff our Schoolhouse Museum on weekend afternoons.

Responsibilities: 

• Greets visitors and welcomes them to the Museum
• Answers questions from visitors

Training Provided:

Volunteers at the Schoolhouse Museum are supporting our vision of educating people about and celebrating the history of Cedar Falls.
Museum hosts allow us to extend our open hours into the weekend.

Benefits to volunteer:

The person filling the position of Field Trip Assistant will serve as a member of the Education Team at the Cedar Falls Historical Society by facilitating field trips at our three historic museums. Field trip volunteers support our mission of educating people about and celebrating the history of Cedar Falls.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: welcoming field trip visitors, teaching about the respective field trip topic/s, answering questions, and supervising field trip visits.


Shifts are 1-5 hours long (between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm) depending on the field trip), during the school week--Monday through Friday. Field trips occur beginning in September through mid October, and again starting in mid April through May.

The Cedar Falls Historical Society is seeking fundraisers to assist with our capital campaign. The Historical Society is launching into a second phase of our campaign which will include building a new interactive museum on Franklin St., behind our new education center at 315 Clay Street.

Steering committee members identify and solicit potential donors for our capital campaign and attend one meeting per month.

Fundraising experience and knowledge of the Historical Society is desired, but not required. Training will be provided. Steering committee members must be enthusiastic about the Historical Society and our plans to build a new museum and willing to share that enthusiasm with others in the community.

Volunteers at the Victorian House Museum support our mission of educating people about and celebrating the history of Cedar Falls.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: welcoming visitors, answering questions, answering the phone, monitoring visitor activity, taking care of gift shop sales, and securing the building.

Shifts are 3 hours long, 10:00-1:00 and 1:00-4:00 pm on Saturdays or 1:00-4:00 pm on Sundays. The Victorian Home is open from February to mid December.

Knowledge of Cedar Falls history is a plus, but not a requirement. Training will be provided.

Qualifications:

Because the historic house side of our building has no elevator, this would be a difficult position for people who use a wheelchair. Accommodations for people with other disabilities will be considered.
