Hello! The Fortepan Iowa project is an online public photo archive located at https://fortepan.us. The project is based at the University of Northern Iowa.
Tagging photos: We are looking for volunteers to help us tag photos with descriptive information. We have a set of 38 “umbrella” category terms, like “animal” and “farm” and we’re looking for help to identify specifics within a photo (e.g. dog, cocker spaniel, silo, tractor, john deere).
Dating photos: We are also looking for a special group of people familiar with Iowa local history who can help us date photographs (we are hoping this group can meet online and date photos as a team). Please contact us as soon as possible--we’d love to get you on board this fantastic project!
