As a 100% volunteer-operated organization, we rely on passionate individuals to support key areas including fundraising, outreach, executive leadership, secretary, and finance. These roles are critical to sustaining our operations, expanding our impact, and ensuring that the stories of our community are not lost.

The museum is actively working to preserve artifacts, develop new exhibits, expand educational programming, and create meaningful community experiences that honor the past while inspiring future generations.

Volunteer: Juneteenth 2ND Annual Car Show and Arts and Craft Show

The purpose of this position is to support the successful execution of the 2nd Annual Juneteenth Car Show and Arts & Craft Show by assisting with event operations, vendor coordination, and guest engagement. This role helps advance the museum’s mission by fostering community connection, celebrating African American culture and history, and increasing public awareness and participation.

Assist with event setup and teardown, including tents, tables, signage, and vendor spaces Support vendor and car show registration, check-in, and fee collection as needed Provide general event support by greeting guests, answering questions, and directing attendees Help coordinate event flow, including parking, staging, and activity areas Monitor event areas to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment Represent the museum in a professional and friendly manner while engaging with the community.

No formal education or prior experience required; a willingness to learn and support the mission is most important Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact positively with diverse community members. Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team Ability to stand, walk, and assist with light lifting (tables, chairs, supplies) as needed Volunteers must be at least 16 years old (younger participants may volunteer with a parent or guardian) This opportunity is accessible to individuals with disabilities, with accommodations available upon request. This role helps ensure a positive visitor experience while advancing the museum’s mission to preserve and share local history.

Greet and welcome visitors to the museum during open hours Provide general information about exhibits and answer basic questions Monitor exhibit areas to ensure a safe and respectful environment Assist with opening and closing procedures as needed Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the museum space Support basic operations such as tracking visitor attendance or directing guests Represent the museum in a friendly and professional manner.

Friendly and welcoming attitude with strong interpersonal skills Interest in history, culture, or community engagement preferred,  but not required. Reliable and able to commit to scheduled volunteer shifts.
