Cedar Valley Readers
Cedar Valley Readers works to close the achievement gap, reduce high school dropout rates, and end intergenerational poverty by providing literacy support and resources in the focus areas of school readiness, school attendance, and summer learning / after-school so every child is reading proficiently by the end of third grade.
An alarming number of children in our community are not proficient readers by the end of third grade. This has significant and long-term consequences, and if left unchecked, this problem will undermine efforts to close the achievement gap, reduce high school dropout rates, and end intergenerational poverty. Cedar Valley Readers, the local coalition of the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, was launched to reverse this potentially catastrophic trend by supporting collective-impact solutions.
Cedar Valley Readers works within three solution areas proven to move the needle on third grade reading proficiency: starting kindergarten ready to learn; helping every child be at school all day, every day; and providing summer learning and after-school activities to prevent summer learning loss. We do community outreach with organizations/entities and individuals to create a shared vision and to expand our service reach.
