Who We Are
The mission of Lou Henry is to value and educate all students in a caring, safe and positive learning environment to meet the challenges of a diverse world. Students exiting Lou Henry will be academically proficient, critical and creative thinkers, as well as life-long learners.
What We Do
Lou Henry is home to over 550 students. We are truly a diverse school as our families come from all over the world. Seventeen languages are spoken by our students and their families. We have an experienced and dedicated staff that work to meet the needs of each of our students. In addition, we have a very active PTO that supports the academic success of our students. Welcome to Lou Henry Elementary School, the home of the Little Hawks. Lou Henry Elementary opened in 2005 and was named after former First Lady of the United States, Lou Henry Hoover. The First Lady was born in Waterloo in 1874 and called it home during the early years of her life. She was known for her volunteerism and served as a role model for young ladies throughout the United States. She was the first woman in America to graduate with a degree in Geology. She is best known for her work with the Girl Scouts of America having served as the president of the organization and as a member of the board of directors.
